| 11/3/2011 Reuther |
The Vikings completed
their season by making a huge splash at Rochester Stadium against
the Reuther Crusaders. The Vikings offense was truly clicking on all
cylinders, especially Michael Girdler at QB. Michael completed 6 of
7 passes for 4 touchdowns (and had one called back by a penalty).
Mitchell Sokol, Terrance Norris, and
Joey Ziniti all made big contributions on offense.
The defense was great too. Joey Zekaj,
Antonino Munaco, Nick Pak and Bo Lineberger all had especially
strong performances.
The score was 38-0 at the half and that
remained the score until the final whistle blew.
The 2nd and 3rd units got a lot of time
on the field as well. Mark Kossadja, Jackson Hohauser (seeing his
first action at QB), |
 |
Javan White and Ben
Petersmark all recorded big plays on offense. On defense,
Spencer Fleming, James Swanton, Ivan Martinez, and Kaleb Thomas got
in some big hits.
Overall, it was a great team effort and
put a final exclamation point on the 2011 season.
The Vikings were truly a "team" this
year. Everyone contributed and helped the cause. No one was out for
themselves, they played for one another, and it showed all season.
The coaches believe that big things are
in store for this 8th grade class down the road in high school and
are excited about all the 7th graders who will work to keep the
streak going!
Great job Vikings! You closed the deal! |

| 10/27/11 West |
It was
championship Thursday at Highlander stadium as the Vikings
hosted the 4-0 West Warriors to compete for the league title.
West had a team with many players big in size, but it was the
big hearts of the Vikings that determined the outcome on this
day. The sun even managed to peak behind the clouds and provide
the Viking faithful with a relatively pleasant afternoon.
The Vikings got on
the board quickly. After a loss on 1st down, Michael Girdler
hooked up with Terrance Norris for a 12 yard slant pass and a
first down. Two plays later Joey Ziniti took it in for a score
from about 20 yards out. Joey would score again later in the
quarter and continue his hot scoring streak over the past 2
games. Girdler and Mitch Sokol would also hook up on a nice
pitch and catch for a two-point conversion.
|
|
The defense
was also up to the challenge. Antonino Munaco made some
bone-crushing hits, along with Jackson Hohauser and Cameron
Debano. In the 2nd quarter, with the score Van Hoosen 14,
West 0, The Warriors began to gain a bit of momentum as they
began running their "Power I" formation with some success.
However, the Vikings were able to hold the Warriors and
force a punt. Terrance Norris was able to blow the game open
with an electrifying 64 yard punt return for a touchdown.
At that point, the route was on. The defense continued to
play solid, and it should be noted that for the second week
in a row, Joey Zekaj was able to pin West deep with his
kickoffs, along with excellent coverage by the kickoff team,
especially Anthony Munaco and Eric Murray. Spencer
Littleson showed he was playing "heads-up" when he was able
to thwart a Warrior trick play.
At the end of
the second quarter, a scary moment occurred as Zach Hunter
was injured. He had been playing solid from his defensive
back position. Zach was able to walk off under his own power
and we all pray for a speedy recovery. The score at the end
of the half was Van Hoosen 30, West 0.
The second
half featured a lot of playing time for the 2nd and 3rd
units. Michael Ritner had a splendid Interception and return
and there was some fine defensive play from Matt Bouileau,
Spencer Flemming, Kolby Moton, and Ben Petersmark, to keep
the Warriors in check. For the second week in a row,
Bouileau had a touchdown-saving tackle. Kaleb Thomas also
got scrappy from his Linebacker position.
On the
offensive side, Bo Lineberger and Eric Murray hooked up for
a 22 yard scoring strike, which featured a nice down-field
block from Petersmark, and Lineberger and Murray connected
on another long pass. Fine blocking was seen up front by
Stephen Lee, and Colin Day, and Lineberger made good
decisions at his QB position. Mark Kossadja showed some
gritty blocking and helped the Vikings maintain control of
the ball. The Warriors were able to punch a touchdown in at
the end of the game, but there was no doubt from the fans
and players that this day belonged to the Vikings.

| 10/19/11 Hart |
| The Vikings
and Hart Eagles braved some terrible weather elements and
produced a nicely played game on the field on Wednesday, the
19th.
The Vikings
were up to the challenge of facing previously undefeated hart
and shutting down their powerful Wing-T attack. The Defensive
and Offensive lines were really the story of the day, dominating
the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Joey Zekaj also
had a huge kickoff all the way down the Eagles 4 yard line,
which forced the Eagles into tuff field position for most of the
first half.
On offense,
Nick Pak, Sam Addy, Cameron DeBano, Antonio Munaco, and Joey
Zekaj opened up huge holes for the running backs…Michael Girdler
had 9 carries and Joey Zinit had 4 touchdowns on the day.
The passing
game was difficult to muster, but probably the biggest play of
the day came on a 3rd and long when Girdler connected with
Spencer Littleson to set up a makeable 4th and inches (which the
Vikings converted). |
|
|
The Defensive Line: Mitch Sokol, Munaco, Pak, Bo Lineberger,
Ziniti, and Addy wrecked havoc all day in the Eagles backfield.
The Eagles had negative yardage for the day and only mustered 2
first downs (1 by penalty on a controversial sack-for-a-safety
play).
The Vikings
were up 24-0 at the Half.
In the second
half, the Vikings continued to control the clock and the ball.
The silver and white teams saw valuable playing time. Spencer
Fleming, Chance Rusniak, Alex Kapitula, Brandon Gann, and Dallas
Winkelman continued to open holes for the offense. Ben
Petersmark was able to gain some nice yardage and ran for a
score.
ON defense,
Hunter Lee, Zach Hunter, Jon Vokal, and Anthony Munaco saw some
action in the Eagles backfield as the Eagles had trouble even
getting a snap off from center.

The final
score was Vikings 36, Eagles 0. |

Vikings
pound the Smith Knights 38-0
Behind some very efficient play on offense and a smothering defense.
Smith never really got going offensively and had only one first down
(by penalty) against the first group. Joey Ziniti, Joey Zekaj,
Antonino Munaco, and Jackson Hohauser all were swarming to the ball,
along with the rest of the Viking Black Defense. Zekaj made a great
one-handed interception to stop a Knight possession. On offense, the
boys were clicking on all cylanders. Michael Girdler and Spencer
Littleson hooked up for two pass plays and a TD, and Girdler led the
Veer offense to perfection. The offensive line, especially Cameron
DeBano, Sam Addy, and Nick Pak were really getting a push up front.
The halftime scored showed the Viking dominance…30-0.
In the second half,
the reserves got a lot of valuable playing time. Every Viking got in
the game. Some big hits were delivered by Andrew May, Michael
Andrzejewski, Chance Rusniak, Eric Murray, and Kolby Moton (who has
found a new home at linebacker). On offense, Center Dallas Winkelman
and Guard CJ Morton both made some great strides and opened some big
holes for Matt |

|
Boileau and Bo Lineberger. Murray added a second half touchdown as
well.
The special teams
also looked solid, as Terrance Norris had a huge hit on kickoff, as
well as a very nice opening kickoff return.
Final score….Vikings 38-Smith-0

| 10/6 Larson |
| The Vikings hopped
on a long bus ride to southeast Troy to face the Larson Rebels on a
beautiful fall afternoon. The Vikings opened the game with a nice
kickoff and coverage by the kickoff team. The defense held the
Rebels to a 3 and out, and truly had a dominant performance all
night, with the "Black" group allowing no first downs the entire
game. Great performances on defense were put in by Antonino Munaco,
Joey Ziniti (making his first start at defensive end), and Mitchell
Sokol. On the Vikings first possession, Terrance Norris made his
presence known after a couple of option plays and runs by Ziniti.
Norris caught a nice pass from Michael Girdler and sprinted down the
sideline for the first score. The Vikings actually looked solid in
the passing game, completing passes to 6 different receivers during
the contest. Girdler was sharp, and the offensive line, led by Nick
Pak and Cameron DeBano, provided him good protection. Sokol pitched
in with a touchdown catch of his own, and Eric Murray had a nice run
around the end. the Rebels helped the Vikings out a little with some
trouble snapping the ball on their punt team. The halftime score was
Vikings 20, Larson 6.

 |
| The
"white" offense and defense saw lots of action, getting into the
game early in the 3rd quarter and closing out the game. Zach Hunter
made some nice plays on both sides of the ball. Alex Kapitula, Ivan
Martinez, and Stephen Lee made some quality blocks for Michael
Rittner and Bo Lineberger. Matt Boileau did some hard running from
his fullback position. Eric Murray was able to punch in another
score. On
defense, Jared Curtis and Caleb Thomas led the charge, with Kolby
Moton and Mitchell Rolfe keeping things in front of them from their
defensive back positions. Michael Inza, Andrew May, and Michael
Andrzejewski saw their first significant action and were getting
quite scrappy with the Rebels! Other solid contributions from the
White/Silver group came from Spencer Flemming and James Fazecas.
Overall, it was a great team win against a Rebel team which had some
quality talent. ALL the Vikings saw the field which is a great
tribute to our boys preparation and desire. Some of the younger
players are starting to learn the ropes and understand what it takes
to play this great game. Positions are starting to shake themselves
out as well, and the boys are willing to do whatever it takes to
help the team succeed.
Next up is an away game next Thursday at Troy Smith, where the
Knights always play us tough! See you there!

| Van Hoosen 40, Boulon 0.
The Van Hoosen
Heavyweights opened their season with an impressive win over
visiting Troy Boulon. The Vikings got off to a fast start as
Spencer Littleson scored from 30 yards out on a counter play behind
a great block by Antonino Munaco. The conversion was good to make
it 8-0 very early. The first possession for Boulon did not end
well, as Sam Addy blocked a punt attempt and then fell on the ball.
The Vikings went to work quickly again, and this time Jackson
Hohauser took a pass to the house. The conversion was
successful…16-0. On the next kickoff, Ben Petersmark made a big hit
and that was followed up by great defensive play from Joey Zekaj and
Addy to stop Boulan again. A short punt gave the Vikings good field
position. After a nifty catch and run by Mitchell Sokol, the
Vikings were threatening again. Littleson took a pitch and scored
to make it 22-0 and Zack Hunter caught a pass for the
conversion…24-0. It didn’t take long for the Vikings to strike
again, but this time it was on defense. |
 |
Joey
Zekaj got a “pick-6” and the route was on.
In the 2nd
half, the “white” and “silver” groups got lots of valuable playing
time. Nice line play was shown by Colin Day and Bo Lineberger led
the offense with some nice midline runs of his own. Eric Murray
also had a nice run around the end for a 1st down.
Defensively, Petersmark and Rusniak made some big hits. The last
scoring came on a 4thdown pass connection from Lineberger
to Hunter to put a cap on the game….final score Van Hoosen 40,
Boulon 0.
