 Freshman Highlanders Topple Southfield 30-0

The Rochester Adams Highlanders started the 2007 season with an impressive 30-0 thumping of Southfield High on Thursday August 23rd.  Aside from maybe a few opening game jitters and extreme hot and humid conditions, not much went wrong for the frosh.

Adams opened the scoring on their 2nd offensive possession with a Darrian Bell 52 yard scamper around left end for a touchdown.  A missed extra point made it 6-0 Adams midway thru the 1rst quarter.    The Adams defense which stymied Southfield all day, pushed their opponent way back into their own end on a series of penalties and stops.  On Adams first play from the Southfield 15, Jordan Gowman ran around left end and made a couple of nifty moves to the end zone.  A successful two point conversion made it 14-0 Adams at the end of the 1rst quarter.

Southfield made a couple of first downs on their next possession, but was stopped on a failed 4rth and 3 at the Adams 30 yard Line.    Two possessions’ later Adams scored their third touchdown on a 15 yard strike from QB Andrew Hammet to Gannon Pacioni.  Another two point conversion made it 22-0 with 3 minutes to go in the Half.

Jordan Gowman scored his second touchdown of the day with less than 1 minute to go in the half with a 6 yard plunge over Right Tackle.  Another successful two point conversion, this time from Hammett to Chris Young ended the game’s scoring at 33-0.

There was not any scoring from either side in the 2nd half, yet much excitement as many of the Adam’s 54 player roster saw significant playing time.

The Adams defense looked very strong in this game giving up only a handful of first downs and little Southfield possessions on the Adams side of the field.

All in all a great start for the Freshman Highlanders.  Now the Highlanders turn their attention to next week where they will face Farmington Hills Harrison on Thursday August 30th in Farmington.  This game will start a certain heated rivalry between these two schools in the OAA realignment and will be a tough test for the Freshman.

Way to start Boys, now build on the momentum!!!

GO HIGHLANDERS!!
