Another seemingly perfect night at the home of the Troy
Athens
Hawks was the backdrop for game two. The first drive started on the
25-yard line. Strong running
by John Stirzinger, Jake Ball and Cory Hamilton set up the first score of
the night. Brian Hollett
scored on a 4-yard veer option from QB Ball that put the Highlanders up
6-0.
Troy
Athens
took the ensuing kick-off and returned it 48 yards.
This drive came to a screeching halt when a Highlander defender
stripped the ball that was scooped up by strong Safety Jake Wilson who ran
56 yards for the second score of the game.
The next series by
Athens
was again derailed by a Brian Hollett interception.
This set up the next Highlander score on a textbook, 68-yard pass
by Ball to Mike Hauser . The
next offensive series by
Athens
forced touchdown saving tackles by Cameron Copacia and Mike Hauser.
Athens
finally scored on a stingy Highlander defense making the score 19-7.
On the ensuing kick-off Sophomore Josh Renel showed speed and
determination as he ran 86 yards for another Highlander score.
When the Highlanders took possession of the ball again it was QB
Jake Ball’s 29-yard pass to Hauser to set up a 1 yard run by Ball for a
touchdown. Senior John
Trucksis who sacked the quarterback for a loss on a key third down play
again thwarted
Athens
next offensive series. Just
before the first half came to a close, the Highlander offense demonstrated
more fire power as Junior Mike Gansser caught a pass good for 45 yards.
The score at the end of the first half: Highlanders 33
Athens
7.
The second half allowed many players to gain valuable experience. The
defense continued their strong play with big plays along the defensive
line by Tom Fedolak,
Wayne
Sanders and a surge led by Nick Benaquisto that resulted in a safety.
Junior Matt Petrusha had 2 fumble recoveries.
Mike Hauser added yet another touchdown pass of 27 yards (Watch
the video!). Brian Hollett
ended up with two interceptions.
FINAL SCORE:
Rochester
Adams 42
Troy

Congratulations to the
