Varsity

Adams vs.

Clarkston

As the sound of the bagpipes opened the 2005 Varsity season on a beautiful August night, the Highlanders took possession of their new turf. The first half was a seesaw battle of wills. The Highlander offense led by Jake Ball, had two sustained drives that both ended in turnovers.

Senior quarterback Jake Ball hit fellow senior Mike Hauser for 5 receptions and 50 yards. Senior running back John Stirzinger stepped up and ran decisively for 7 carries and 52 yards on the ground.

The Highlander defense demonstrated their mettle early and often. Senior Corey Momont and Junior Joe Bernard came up with big plays to stop the Clarkston Wolves in their tracks. The first half ended in a scoreless tie.

The second half opened with a fumble recovery on the kick-off by junior Mike Gansser.

This set up the first score of the season on a John Stirzinger 4 yard run on well executed veer option by Jake Ball.

Key defensive plays again by Corey Momont and Bernard , coupled with an interception my Mike Hauser with 4:37 left in the game killed any momentum the Wolves had.

Senior Bryan Kimball added a 28-yard field goal. Junior safety, Jake Wilson picked off a desperation pass from the Clarkston quarterback and returned it, untouched, for 53 yards down the sideline for the final Highlander score.

All said The Highlanders beat a highly touted Clarkston team to start the 2005 season off right.

Final score:  Adams Family 17- (Last train to) Clarkston 0

Congratulations to the players and the coaching staff on a job well done.
