Game 2 »

Congratulations Freshmen Highlanders!! What a way to start your Freshmen year with a 34 – 14 victory over the Clarkston Wolves. It was a real team effort. The players put in a lot of hard work and it paid off.

The Highlanders received the opening kickoff and were held forcing them to punt – this would be our only punt of the game. After that, they totally controlled the game.

Our defense crushed the Wolves with several huge tackles by Michael Sirosky – with several tackles in the Wolves backfield, Rick Farinas and Jason Finney.  Beau Barterian scored on our next possession – a 58-yard run breaking several tackles along the way to the end zone. Matt Egbert’s PAT attempt was good.

In the second quarter Clarkston drove down to the Highlanders 14 yard line but were stopped on fourth down when Ryan Crocenzi snuffed their running back for an 8 yard loss. Adams took over on downs.  A great drive was put together with a pass from Andrew Waszak to Joe Reynolds and huge runs by Andrew Johnson (AJ), Waszak and Barterian. This drive culminated in a TD as AJ pushed his way across the goal line from the 2 yard line. Again the Adams defense held Clarkston with big plays from Finney, AJ and Jordan Parker. Adams scored their next TD on a  46-yd run by Waszak.  Ryan Crocenzi intercepted a Wolves pass and returned it 25 yards to end the Wolves threat giving the Highlanders one more chance to score before the end of the half. A great catch my Cody Wilson on a pass from Waszak kept this drive alive. Barterian scored his second TD of the game to give Adams a 27 – 0 halftime lead.

Our defense held the Wolves on the first possession of the second half and in return we were able to put 7 more points on the board. This drive was highlighted with runs by Waszak, Wilson and Egbert. AJ scored his second TD of the game & Egbert converted on yet another extra point to make the score 34 -0 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Clarkston scored 2 TDs in the fourth quarter off of Adams turnovers. Key defensive plays in the second half were turned in by Wilson, Joel Wentzloff, Sirosky, Finney, Lloyd Reeves, Taylor Duda, and Barterian.

Highlanders win their first High School football game 34 -14.

Great job Highlanders!
