ADAMS 20 HARRISON 6

For the second time this season the Freshmen Highlanders face an undefeated opponent. This week it was Farmington Harrison, a power house in the OAA. Harrison put up a good fight, but the tough Highlander team was no match for them as the Highlanders remained undefeated beating the Hawks 20 – 6.

The first quarter was a battle of the defenses. Great defensive plays were turned in by Highlanders Michael Sirosky with a sack for a 6 yard loss, Cody Wilson, Jason Finney, Michael Barber and the rest of the defensive squad. A lot of gang tackles kept the Hawks out of Highlander territory and not allowing a first down the entire quarter.

The Highlanders started off the second quarter in true Adams fashion. Adams took possession after a Hawks punt on their own 35 yard line. Andrew Waszak rushed 30 yards on a QB keeper on the first play of the drive. Two plays later Mitch Weiland ran 25-yards and a Hawks face mask penalty got the ball down to the Harrison 1 yard line. Andrew Johnson(AJ) finished off the drive and put the Highlanders on the score board with a 1-yd TD run. The point after attempt was no good.

Harrison received the ensuing kickoff at their own 22-yd line. On the first play of the drive a hard hit by Matt Egbert forced a fumble that was recovered by Sirosky at the Hawks 17-yd line.

I took 4 running plays by Elliot Ford, Waszak, and AJ before Waszak punched it in for 6 more points from the 2-yd line. Waszak’s pass to Weiland in the end zone was good for the 2-point conversion.

The rest of the first half was a series of punts by both teams. Long-snapper Christian Babini did a great job all afternoon as punter Waszak had some hefty kicks of 45, 46 and 49 yards. Cody Wilson was the punt return man for Adams. He returned several Hawks punts with his longest return being 27-yards down the sidelines.

Second quarter key defensive plays were turned in by Kevin Markey, Sirosky, Finney, Egbert, and Joel Wentzloff

The third quarter played out like the first. Neither team was able to put points up on the board.

Adams scored again in the fourth quarter. Harrison was forced to punt after a sack for a 10yd loss by Sirosky and big tackles for losses by Taylor Duda, Finney and Wilson. Adams took over at the Harrison 49-yd line. This drive consisted of 3 runs by AJ (19, 26 & 4 yds). AJ took it in for the TD and 6 more points for the Highlanders. The PAT was no good.

Harrison’s next drive was short lived as hits by Egbert, Wilson, Sirosky and Finney forced the Hawks to punt after 5 plays. Adams took over at the Hawks’ 38-yd line but were unable to move the ball. Waszak’s long punt and immediate tackle by Rich Farinas backed the Hawks up at their own 4-yd line. On Harrison’s third play of the drive the running back broke free and ran 96-yds for the TD. The attempt at the 2-pt conversion was no good.
