The Freshmen
Highlanders chewed up the Huskies on their way to their 5th
straight victory. It was another great game. The Huskies announcer was
awesome. He truly entertained the crowd.
Adams
scored on their very first possession.
Cody Wilson received a Huskie punt and returned it 15 yards to the Huskies
37-yd line. Our first offensive play was a 48-yd pass from Andrew Waszak
to
Wilson
. Elliot Ford’s hard work got us to the 6-yd line. Waszak kept the
handoff and was stopped just short of the goal line on the next play. The
fourth play of the drive had Waszak keeping it again. He hit a big red
Huskie wall, but spun to the left side and pushed his way into the end
zone for a quick 6 points. Matt Egbert’s kick was good.

Pontiac Northern had
a great return on the ensuing kickoff before being stopped on the
Highlanders 35-yd line. Again this week the defense stepped up. Big
tackles were made by Andrew Johnson(AJ) and Ford to hold the Huskies as
they went for it on 4th down and failed.
Adams
took over on their own 29-yd line. The 5
play drive ended with a 1-yd TD run by AJ. Egbert had runs of 15-yds and
2-yds, Ford had a great tackle breaking 16-yd run and Waszak had a 32-yd
run before being knocked out of bounds at the 1-yd line.
Adams
attempted the 2-pt conversion
and AJ made it good.

Northern was unable
to get their offense going. AJ,
Ryan Crocenzi, Taylor Duda, Joel Wentzloff, Michael Sirosky, Jason Finney,
and Wilson all contributed big plays in stopping the Huskies on their next
two possessions. The entire Highlander defense put a lot of pressure on
the Northern QB.
Pontiac
punted and
Wilson
returned it 16-yds to the Highlanders 29-yd line where our next drive
began. Waszak led the offense on an 81-yd TD ending drive.
Wilson
had a 12-yd run, AJ had runs of 13 and 14 yards. Waszak completed two
passes on the drive. One on a draw to Joe Reynolds for a 17-yd gain and a
13-yd TD pass to Ford. The
2-pt conversion failed.

This
Adams
defense is definitely something all teams should fear.
Pontiac
took over at their 20-yd line after the kick-off cleared the end zone.
Pontiac
tried to move the ball, but just couldn’t get through the always tough
defensive line.
Pontiac
was forced to punt once again after 3 plays. Sirosky pushed his way
through a wall of 3
Pontiac
backs and came up with the huge blocked punt that was recovered by
Wentzloff. This set up great field position for the Highlanders on the
Northern 15-yd line. After AJ’s 5-yd gain, Waszak ran it in from 10-yds
out for the TD. AJ made the 2-pt conversion good.

Pontiac
had a 25-yd kickoff return before being
stopped by Christian Babini and Waszak at their 44-yd line. Defensive
plays by Christian Boada, Sirosky and Wentzloff forced the
Pontiac
offense to pass on 3rd down and long. Crocenzi was there at the
38-yd line ready for the pick. He returned the ball 10 yards to give
Adams
possession at mid-field.
Pontiac
recovered an
Adams
fumble at their own 31-yd line 2 plays later. Everyone was making big
plays on defense. Mitch Weiland, Duda, Boada, and Finney were the stoppers
on this drive.
Pontiac
punted and the Highlanders took over on their own 41-yd line.
Mike Reimann made the
big play on this drive – a 34-yd run across the field breaking several
tackles. He was knocked out of bounds at the
Pontiac
25-yd line. A few plays later, Reynolds scored on a QB keeper from the 1.
Reynolds was also good on the 2-pt conversion.
Adams
dominated the first half. The defense did
not allow a 1st down the entire first half of the game. The
offense scored a touchdown on 5 of 7 possessions.
Adams
played a very controlled half. They were flagged for only 1 penalty in the
half. That was on the first play of the game when the kickoff went out of
bounds.
HALF TIME: ADAMS 37 –

Adams
received the 2nd half kickoff,
but was forced to punt for the first time in the game.
Pontiac
took over on their on 34-yd line. They got a little drive going, but the
defense of Andy Maas, Sherwin Shustari, Rich Farinas, Weiland, Lloyd
Reeves and Michael White stopped them well short of the end zone. The
defense forced the Huskies to turn the ball over on downs at the
Adams
35-yd line.
The
Adams
coaches mixed it up a bit on what would be their last possession of the
game. Finney was the work horse on this drive. He carried the ball 7 times
for a total of 39 yards. He even took a few snaps at QB.
Adams
drove to the Huskies 15-yd line before a fumble turned the ball over. The
Huskie defender returned the fumble for a quick TD, but it was called back
due to a holding penalty. On the very next play, the Huskie QB faked the
hand off and ran 68-yards for the score with 1:04 left in the game. Their
attempt at a 2-pt conversion failed. And
as the Huskie announcer bid farewell –
TTFN (ta ta for now)!
