ADAMS 33             GROVES 0

Adams keeps their winning streak alive recording yet another shut out. It was only a few minutes into the game before the Highlanders showed the Falcons exactly what kind of game it would be. Groves received the opening kick on their own 2-yd line and returned it to the 14, but a Groves penalty spotted the ball at the 4. The defense held them and on 4th down, Joel Wentzloff recovered a fumble in the end zone for the first 6 points of the game. Matt Egbert’s PAT was good.

Egbert kicked another deep one and Mitch Weiland tackled the Groves return man at the Groves 4-yd line. Groves got the ball out to the 22-yd line after an Adams penalty, but sacks by Jason Finney and Weiland forced the Falcons to punt.

Adams started their first offensive drive at the Groves 41-yd line. Two plays later Andrew Waszak scored on a 39-yd QB keeper. The PAT was no good. It didn’t take long before Adams lead 13 – 0.

The ensuing Adams kickoff was recovered by Ryan Crocenzi’s heads up play to give Adams possession on the Groves 32 yd-line. Waszak threw a screen pass to Joe Reynolds who ran the ball down to the Groves 14-yd line. After a 10-yd run by Waszak, Andrew Johnson pushed through the Falcon defense for the TD from 4 yards out.  A great job by long-snapper Christian Babini helped to make Egbert’s PAT good.                                                                                  ADAMS 20 - 0

Adams next scoring opportunity came in the 2nd quarter. After a failed 4th down conversion by Groves , the Highlanders took over on the Groves 29-yd line. Reynolds scored on a 29-yd QB keeper on the first play of the drive. The PAT was good.  Groves put together a drive before the end of the half, but big defensive plays by Kevin Markey, Anthony Johnson, and Finney slowed them down. The drive ended with an Adams fumble recovery.

HALF TIME: ADAMS 27 – GROVES 0

The second half was filled with turnovers by both teams. Adams received the second half kickoff at the Groves 26-yd line, but lost the ball on a Groves fumble recovery at the Adams 39. The Falcons were tried every trick in their playbook, but they did not fool the tough Highlander defense. The reverse was stopped for a 10-yd loss and the next play was crushed by Rich Farinas’ 12-yd sack of the QB. Groves was forced to punt once again.

Groves did get a drive going midway through the 3rd quarter. They drove to midfield, but their hopes of finally scoring were stopped when Weiland recovered yet another Falcon fumble. The Highlander defense continued to control the game during the second half. Fine defensive play by Sherwin Shushtari, Nick Corby, Taylor Duda, Jordan Parker, Lloyd Reeves, Alex Grady, Andy Maas,  and James Beamon kept the Falcons close to their nest in the second half.

Late in the 4th quarter, the Adams offense opened up once again. The drive resulted in a 46-yd TD run by Egbert. Explosive runs by Reynolds and Mike Reimann kept the drive alive. The PAT was blocked.

                                                                                                           ADAMS 33 – 0

Groves returned the kickoff to the 32-yd line. Andy Maas ensured a Highlanders shut out by recovering the last Groves fumble on their first play of the drive.

Once again this was a great team effort. Everyone did their part in Defending Their Turf.  Bring on the Huskies!!
