The gorgeous sunny game starts and game-ending clear evenings must have flown south with the geese. The last game of the season ended on a damp, drizzly evening. But it was still very much a bright ending to a maturing season for the kids in this battle between our cross-town rivals of Rochester HS. Just two little factoids; the boys won 3 of their last 4 games and 3 of their season's losses were decided by only a mere 3 points or less. So even though the Win-Loss column doesn't necessarily reflect it, they played very competitively the entire year. Good job boys and thanks for the great moments. I'm sure all the parents will agree with me that there isn't a better way to spend our fall evenings then watching you all playing a sport you clearly enjoy. We're looking forward to watching you carry on the great Adams Football tradition next year!! Thanks.
The game opened with what turned out to be indicative of how it was going to end. After receiving the opening kick-off, on the first play of the game, RHS threw an interception. The pick was made by Austin Wilson. The AHS offensive machine got going right away and moved the ball down to the 5. But a hit by a flock of Falcon defenders jarred the ball loose, causing a fumble. The AHS defense shut-down the Falcons. The Highlanders systematically dismembered the Falcons defense leading to a 7 yard Wilson keeper. Petrusha was back to his efficient ways and the PAT was good. Score AHS 7 - RHS 0, and that's how the quarter ended.
The second quarter started with RHS still in possession of the ball. But they were simply no match for the clan of Highlander defenders. The Falcons gave the ball over on downs. Then like the smoothness seen reflected from a freshly laid sheet of ice on a hockey rink, the Highlanders scored using a HB pass from Gowman to Sanders. The pass completion TD was for 65 yards. Great trick play call by Coach Farley. The PAT by Mr Consistency, Matt Petrusha was good. Score AHS 14. More swarming defense stifles the Falcons, we get the ball back we score just like clock work. This time is was a 60 yard passing TD on a streaking pattern from Wilson to Sanders. Score AHS 20, RHS 0.
The scoring's not over for AHS. RHS just can't sustain a drive to get a score. AHS gets the ball back, with 2nd and 3rd effort by Cory Hamilton, he romps into the end-zone from 40 yards. The 2 point conversion is good to Nick Krystyniak (a lineman). AHS score now stands at 28. More of the same from RHS ineffective offense because of our overwhelming defense. We get the ball back and gee, the next statement comes as a surprise, we score. It was set-up when Sanders rips up 20 yards of turf, followed by the Wilson-Hammett combination connecting for a 37 yard TD. The half ended with AHS now at 34.
The 3rd quarter saw AHS receive the kick. We proceeded to dismantle the remaining remnants of the Falcon defense. The Highlanders drove the football 85 yards for the final scoring of the game and in the process consumed 6 minutes of the quarter. The score was made possible by a straight ahead no nonsense rush by Gowman from 10 yards. The rest of the quarter was back and forth with all of our players getting some much deserved game time. The 4th quarter was a running clock due to the mercy rule. More of the same back-n-forth in ball exchanges. Final Score was Adams Highlanders 40 and the Rochester Falcons laid a big ole goose egg, 0. Great way to end the season. Boys, work-out and practice to get ready for next yea
